"Reaperland" is a collection of twenty-seven photographs shot around southern USA in late 2017, by Berlin-based photographer Johannes Böttge. The title, oriented to the fictitious, is motivated by the artist's theoretical research - specifically, the parallels found in the practice of photography and the theme of death.

On a road trip through Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Virginia Böttge was inspired by the tense political climate; visualizations of decay, mystery, and the morbid; and stereotypes of American culture.

The series - merging Böttge’s interest in the spiritual and scientific - is to be viewed as a work of fiction, not documentary.
